Commercial waste consists of wastes produced in the business sector. These include wastes generated from business activities coming from shops, catering establishments, wholesalers and offices. Wastes from demolitions also fall on commercial wastes. Moreover, remains of mining and industrial processes do qualify under this type of waste.
In the United Kingdom, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) generate the greater bulk of the collected commercial wastes. Meanwhile, big companies and established businesses employ good waste practices to avoid incurring landfill taxes and other financial disincentives.
Businesses should be responsible in keeping their wastes at the lowest number possible. In doing so, they must make an effort to prevent generation of wastes. If not possible, they can employ methods on how they can reuse, recycle or recover their wastes.
Waste Storage and Collection
The wastes generated by businesses and the rubbish from their consumers are stored in bins and containers, which are collected by commercial rubbish collection companies. Since wastes and litters come in all shapes and sizes, bins and containers do, too.
Enterprises and industries use three types of bins. These are the general trade waste bins, front lift bins and skip bins. Basically, SMEs use the general trade waste bins. These containers are perfect for establishments that have space restrictions. Aside from being impervious to all types of weather conditions, these receptacles are convenient to use. General wastes, such as paper and cardboard, are stored in either 240 liter-, 660 liter- and 1100 liter-containers.
Another type of commercial bins is front lift bins. These containers can hold a great deal of waste and are also impervious to various weather conditions. Usual receptacles can accommodate 1.5 cu. m wastes to 4.5 cu. m wastes. The last kind of commercial bins are skip bins. These hold at least 1.5 cu. m of industrial wastes.
Commercial rubbish collection companies also offer waste recycling services. We all know that recycling helps minimize the wastes dumped in landfills. Generally, these waste collection businesses offer dry recycling, glass recycling and food waste composting.
Items that recycled dry are paper, cans, tins, cartons, cardboard, foils and books, among other things. On the other hand, empty glass bottles, canisters and jars are applicable for glass recycling. Meanwhile, food wastes, bones, egg shells and fruit and vegetable rinds and peelings are used in composting.
